How to have the BEST Eating Adventures

The last few days I have been enjoying some R&R time in Las Vegas with some co-workers and friends.  Now that I am a vegetarian, it is not as exciting to go out to eat somewhere because options are limited at home, in Hawaii.  So, when I travel I make it a point to venture out and I use a few different search tools to find vegan/vegetarian restaurants near me.  My favorite search tools are listed below and I search for restaurants in the order shown:

  • Groupon
  • Google
  • Yelp

I love Groupon because I can search for promotions in any city I am visiting.  It helps me to learn of new places that have some cool cuisine that I might not find with a normal search.  If there isn’t anything popping up that catches my eye, then I move on to a GOOGLE search using the phrase “vegan restaurants near me”.

Now why do I only search vegan and not vegetarian?  Well, because vegetarian is too broad a search and you might get a burger place that serves a salad in a vegetarian result.  So, I don’t want that.  I want a vegan search because it will really fine tunes a menu and produce better options.

So, with a “vegan restaurants near me” search, this brings my options within a 10 mile radius and there are also reviews for the majority of the search results.  Once I pick a few names from this search result, I plug them into Yelp.  I use Yelp because I want to see what recent photos people are posting and comments they are making about the food.  I also like to see how the place looks outside & inside.

It’s not that I have become a food snob, I kind of always have been. It is so important to me to have an awesome vegan/vegetarian experience. I dine out so rarely I just don’t want to be disappointed. I mean if all I want is a so-so dining experience I can go to a chain restaurant with a salad bar.

I strongly feel that if I am going to go through the trouble of hunting down a place to eat, I want the best possible result for my foodie adventure.  Give this a try the next time you are traveling to a specific place or maybe just passing through a city or town.  You never know what foodie gem you might find.

Happy restaurant hunting …
